KLAS Musical 2025

After the musical’s final performance, we have a little party in the Hall, with a small supper for all the students and teachers who participated in the creation of the show. It marks the end of the run and it shows everyone how many people get behind the show to make it a success. It is noisy with chatter and a pandemonium of parts of the play, like cowboy hats and squirrel ears, making their way into the real world.

When we start, in the autumn, we get an idea of what kind of play might be good for this year’s students and we choose something that probably will be a good idea. When we see all the students chatting and dancing and enjoying each other’s company after a great deal of work it is very satisfying. “Elephant and Piggie’s: We are in a Play” gave us everything we needed to entertain an audience and challenge our students.

No one on the outside is really aware of in how little time this production goes from the germ of an idea to the teenage actors taking command of an audience. There is so much learning throughout the rehearsal period: learning lines, learning dances, learning musical cues—Ms. Nakajima even learned how to play the clarinet to support the show!

When we look at the students who have pulled together to create a lovely, joyful production, it really reminds me of how people working together can make a difference.

The audience members left the show with broad grins: one even remarked with some consternation: “I can’t stop smiling.” This year’s show was overflowing with cuteness and amused young and old alike. It could only happen with the dedicated teamwork of dozens of people and the after-party, like the play itself, is a fleeting testament to the spirit of cooperation.
